Tell us a bit about yourself and your business?
We are Jillian & Angela Thompson, tuahine (sisters) and designers/co-founders of the indie clothing brand ‘Jill & Ange’.
Alternative and directional the brand first gained a following in the Sydney fashion scene some 20 years ago making its debut at Sydney’s famous Paddington Market and going on to be stocked in retail stores throughout Australia.
After many years in Oz we returned home to New Zealand opening our first shop in Hamilton at the Le Grand on Collingwood St. As retail moved north we became a part of the Casabella Lane boutique shopping experience in the mid 2000s. Retail shopping was changing with the new online stores taking over the bricks and mortar stores. Jill & Ange moved with the times taking our product to the people through fashion week promos and popups. A stint for three years in a quaint Barton St store and we were on the move again to popups in Ponsonby and wholesaling. But we felt it was time to give our customer base in Hamilton a chance to refresh their wardrobes… here we continue to develop and produce a unique and limited brand of clothing with bi-annual collections trimmed with hand-craft and threaded with themes – often historical or indigenous, sometimes dark sometimes light but always Feminine!
The Jill & Ange clothing brand is made in New Zealand with much Love Passion and Integrity.
What made you choose this tenancy space, what works well here for your business?
Rebecca at NAI Harcourts found us this wonderful space… it was a perfect size, high visibility, great display windows and in the very centre of the city.
What is your specialty?
Our customer is able to shop with confidence for quality craftsmanship, thoughtful functional design, handcrafted details, easy comfort, amazing fit, innovative use of both natural fibre materials and hi-tech yarns.
What range of products/services do you offer?
Jill & Ange clothing, home wares & accessories; art and flax flowers from the talented Sema of Artiflax; delicately perfumed soy candles from LilyRose; beautiful soaps and jewellery from local Waikato businesses
